BIOGRAPHY

I am a 2-D artist and work primarily in oils although acrylics and other mixed media are occasional mediums that I also enjoy using to create images. As an Indiana artist, I join in the time-honored tradition of plein air painting and often record farms, alleys, roads, pathways, and of course, the folks that make Indiana life so much more vibrant.

Primarily a contemporary impressionist oil painter, I am most often identified by my brushstrokes and subject matter in a painting. I like to capture unlikely subjects & elevate them to a higher status with rich, juicy colors. My brushstrokes and mark-making encourage the viewer to enjoy the journey as their eyes travel through the painting.

The figure is a perfect subject to paint and also is the most fulfilling. All around me I see people going about their everyday life who could make the best themes for one of my paintings. For instance, in one of the paintings that you can see on this site, I spotted a man who was killing time probably by playing a game on his cell phone while waiting for his clothes to dry at the laundromat. This scene was just a great design opportunity, and I loved the finished piece.

Subjects for paintings are all around us. We just have to really ‘see’ them. That’s the job of the artist.
